When I was younger (and still to this day)
First Thursday
Sorry to be one of those people but HOW is it May already?! How ever it happened it is the first week of May and that makes this Thursday, First Thursday.
On the first Thursday of every month the galleries and museums of east London keep their doors open later, to give you chance to see amazing art, culture and events after hours.
Head over to the First Thursday site to find out more… but first here’s a couple of new things launching this First Thursday that I thought you should know about.
Kim O’Neil at The Empire Studios
The Empire Studios is a great multi-purpose space in East London as well as being used as a gallery space it’s also used as a recording studio (Fun Fact #1: Hanson have recorded there). Tomorrow sees the exclusive First Thursday private view of Kim O’Neil’s exhibition, Sins, which depicts modern incarnations of the mortal sins; representing a commentary of current society and a critique of the fabrication that is our modern existence, whilst echoing the original seven deadly sins.
(Fun fact #2: Kim O’Neil is apparently a not too distant relative of JFK.)
Empire Studios, 33A Wadeson Street, London, E2 9DR – The exhibition continues to 13 May.
We’re big fans of the analogue photobooths that appear in a number of locations across the city and now those wonderful guys at Photoautomat are sticking one at Netil House and having a launch part on First Thursay. As the invite says there will be free photos, alcoholic ice lollies and other refreshments.
The launch will also see the start of their ongoing photo booth pin board wall gallery in the Platform Cafe (which I actually visited for the first time a couple of weeks ago, amazing bar at the top of Netil House).
