I really wish I had a cooler story for how
Nike Flyknit Festival Launch

For someone who not too long ago posted a blog saying “I’m just not that into sport” – I seem to be doing a lot of sport related stuff lately and I’m pretty hooked (still holding firm on my football stance though).
On Friday I went down to the launch of Nike’s Flyknit Festival (check out below for Flyknit Festival timetable), giving us the chance to check out what the Nike Flyknit Collective and, London-based architects, We Made That have done to reinvigorate Aske Gardens. The result is an amazing community multipurpose sport location just round the corner from Old Street station.

The space boasts newly revamped tennis and basketball courts as well as for one week only a temporary installation created by London design and art practice United Visual Artists and inspired by Flyknit’s ideals of Performance, Formfitting, Sustainability and Lightness. The installation is open to all this week and invites you to, as UVA put it, “enjoy a sense of motion and levity, whilst creating a spectacle of light and sound for the audience. Floating Point is effectively a musical instrument, with the movement of the performers determining how it is played. By working together, each group of participants generates a unique soundscape for the park.”

Using UVA’s Floating Point installation, the launch night also included an incredible piece (pictured above and below) choreogaphed by Ella Robson Guilfoyle again based around the Flyknit principles. Head down this week and work with others to create your own piece or go it alone.

Find out more about Flyknit here and the Flyknit Collective here and make sure you head down and check out the space during the festival:
