The Weeknd plays London!

Who announces a gig less than two weeks before the actual show? The Weeknd that’s who and I love it. I’ve had to invest in a secure vault for all the tickets I’ve bought for gigs that are in 6 months time, so well-played sir!

The Weeknd (real name  Abel Tesfaye) who featured heavily on my “best of 2011″ lists, most notably with the song House Of Balloons / Glass Table Girls and his third mix tape of the year, Echoes of Silence (which you can download for free here), will be appearing at Wilton’s Music Hall on June 7th.

Check out his set at Coachella (below) and if you’re not convinced to buy tickets instantly, I’m not sure we can talk any more. UPDATE: Thanks to NHK and Lalalala for the comments, I’ve added another clip from Brooklyn (thanks for the link Lalalala), I’ve kept the Coachella video though as even if it’s not his best performance the sound is clean and now we now have sun in London I’m obsessed with anything sunny!

Tickets go on general release tomorrow (that’s Monday 28th May) at 9am from Live Nation for £22.25 and considering how many people awoke from hangover sleep on a Sunday morning to instantly purchase all of the pre-sale allocation you better get in their fast.

(Oh and just in case you get your hopes up of Drake making an appearance – as he has done in the US – I checked and while he doesn’t have a show on the same day he’s in Cincinnati the day before and somewhere in New York state the day after, so would be a long shot)

Don’t check out Coachella. Instead check out instead the hundreds of live footage on YouTube taken recently from his short USA-Canadian tour. Those were much better as he found his groove with his band during that time.

Let em try that again….this time in English. Skip the Coachella stuff. It’s alright but certainly not that strong. To get a better taste instead look at the concerts or samples of concert footage that can be found in the hundreds from his more recent tour (post Coachella) in the USA and Canada. Just go to Youtube and search for “The Weeknd”+”live” and add locations such as Chicago, New York, Hollywood, Seattle, Vancouver, Ft. Lauderdale, etc. Those performances are much better than his showing at Coachella.

Thanks NHK, point taken there are better shows. I used the Coachella video just because I knew the sound was clean and because I get a bit annoyed with the amount of mobile phones up in the air at gigs (so would rather discourage that).

That said I’ve added another video as recommended by @473872b10e06ba688a06d7d970ac4d77:disqus .

        Thanks again for the comment.

Thanks for the link I’ve posted your recommended video up there now too.

I used the Coachella video because I knew the sound was good and with it being sunny in London for once it’s nice to watch sunny videos. That said you’re right it wasn’t his strongest but even at his worst I think he’s better than most.
