World Basketball Festival – Brixton – 30 June
I have no love for watching sport, the idea of going to see the game, no matter how much beer is in involved, is my idea of a temporary but considerable hell. That is unless said game is basketball. It could be just that I’m a massive yankophile but basketball is the only sport I watch and enjoy regularly, but sadly the NBA finals could be over as early as tonight – I’m hoping for an OKC win so bring on 3 more games. But to fill the immediate void left by the NBA, on 30 June Nike are bringing the World Basketball Festival to London (Brixton to be more specific)!
For the free day portion of the event, local and intenational stars will be in attendance for the day of events, which will include a 3-on-3 competition, 5-on-5 exhibition game and a display of top dunking action. There’ll also be free coaching and pick-up games to join in with.
In the evening (tickets £5 through ticketweb), O2 Academy Brixton will host a spectacular fusion of music and basketball with an exclusive appearance from Outkast legend Big Boi , supported by rising star Dot Rotten and the Miami Heat Street Band – the perfect soundtrack for dance crews, professional athletes and dunkers. We’ve also heard that Dream Team Legend Scottie Pippen will also be in attendance!
So head down to Brixton on 30 June to get your basketball fix. The day section kicks of at 8am at Windrush Square and the evening will kick off at 6:30pm at Brixton Academy.
